There are two issues with annotations in OSX Safari.
Existing annotations with text appear empty.
Newly added annotation component cannot be selected at all. It can be resized, but cannot be selected or moved, so there is no way to add markdown to it.

Editing mode is now functional in Safari. Note: on-canvas widget previews will not work in Safari.
